What Are Green Coffee Beans?

Green coffee beans are unroasted coffee seeds from the fruit of the coffee plant, packed with flavor potential. The origin, processing method, and grade of these beans greatly impact their quality and flavor.

Types of Green Coffee Beans

  • 17/18 Beans: Large, uniform beans (screen size 17/18) known for consistent roasting and balanced flavor profiles. Often preferred for their premium quality and clarity in the cup.

  • Peaberry: A rare, natural mutation where only one round seed forms inside the cherry, resulting in denser beans with concentrated, vibrant flavors.

  • Microlot: Small batches from specific farms or unique processing methods. Known for high cup scores (85+), exclusive flavors, and traceability, making them ideal for specialty coffee lovers.

  • 14/16 Beans: Smaller beans (screen size 14/16) often used in blends or for cost-effective roasting. While smaller, they still offer excellent flavor depending on their origin and processing.
